BREAKING: Local hospitals screening for coronavirus

Screening precautions for the coronavirus are now in place at hospitals in the area.

In a press release, the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance says that while the risk in our region is low at this point, they are taking precautions which include screening patients at all four of their hospital sites.

On arrival, patients will be asked about their symptoms, particularly respiratory symptoms and if they have travelled to Wuhan, China.

They will also be asked if they have come in contact with someone who has or is suspected of having coronavirus.

If they are at risk of possibly having the virus, they will be asked to clean their hands, put on a mask and be taken to a special isolation room until a diagnosis can be confirmed.

Canadian officials have confirmed the country’s first case of the coronavirus, which originated in China, in a patient in Toronto.
