Coldest Night of The Year coming up this weekend in Stratford

Showing Perth County’s homeless youth some warmth.

That’s the goal behind the Coldest Night of The Year event taking place in Stratford on Saturday afternoon starting at Knox Presbyterian Church and then going around the Avon River.

Teams take part in a two, five or ten-kilometre walk around the river with all money raised from pledges going to Stratford/Perth Shelterlink which serves youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are either homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Bev Hagedorn from Stratford Perth Shelterlink says there is lots of support in the community for the event.

“We have 104 walkers and it keeps growing every day, I think within a week we’ve jumped from forty-two per cent of our goal to sixty per cent.”

Registration begins at 4 o’clock with the walk getting underway at 5:15.
