“Happy ending” to near drowning in Millbank

Area firefighters are crediting “incredible teamwork” by first responders in stopping what they say was a near-drowning in the Millbank area.

Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall tells MyStratfordNow.com first responders were called out around 11:15 Friday morning to the area after a young male went down in the Nith River.

Marshall says the boy, who is under 10, was rescued by another young male he was with but it took an extensive search of the area by first responders to locate where they were as it was in a rural area with no direct access to it.

He says Ornge Air Ambulance arrived on scene but the boy was able to walk to a land ambulance on his own and he was transported to the Stratford General Hospital.

Marshall adds they are thanking an area farmer as first responders had to cut across his field to get the boys.

Marshall says the close call serves as a good reminder to always keep water safety front-of-mind.
