Perth-Wellington MP planting nine maple trees to mark Canada Day

The MP for Perth-Wellington is planting nine trees across the area to mark Canada Day.

John Nater says one maple tree will be planted in each of the nine municipalities in Perth-Wellington.

A release from Nater says the maple tree has been a national symbol throughout Canada’s history.

In the 19th Century, the symbol was used as a marker of Canada’s identity and during the First World War the maple leaf was worn on the uniforms of Canadian soldiers while in 1965 the red maple leaf became the centre of Canada’s national flag.

The tree plantings will begin Tuesday and conclude next Monday.
