Pettapiece hand delivers letters to Premier Doug Ford in support of Stratford Festival

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says strengthening the Stratford Festival must be a key part of Ontario’s strategy to alleviate the economic impact of COVID-19.
He says he hand-delivered nearly 100 letters from constituents in support of the Festival to Premier Ford and the Minister of Heritage, Tourism and Culture Industries, Lisa MacLeod on Tuesday at Queen’s Park.

Pettapiece says he told Premier Ford that “the Stratford area is going through a tough time right now,” adding “The Festival’s postponement is the big reason for that.”

In April, the Festival announced it was postponing the 2020 season due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

The Festival is responsible for generating approximately $135 million in economic activity annually.

Pettapiece says he has also advocated for relief for other cultural organizations in his riding, including Stratford Summer Music.
