Stratford is among the first in North America to install city-wide smart intersections.
It comes as all 24 of the city’s traffic light-controlled intersections are now equipped with dedicated short-range communications equipment that paves the way for the testing of autonomous vehicles.
The equipment allows for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications.
The funding for the equipment is coming from the Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network who pledged $1-million in provincial funding in 2017 after Stratford was named an AVIN Technology Demonstration Zone.
