Eight active COVID-19 cases reported in Huron Perth since Friday

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth says an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the region is a reminder against complacency.

Dr. Miriam Klassen gave an update on the virus in the region Monday afternoon and revealed there are now eight new active cases in the region.

Klassen says the eight cases were all added since Friday and they bring the overall number of cases the region has seen to 82 with 74 resolved.

She says there is no single reason for the cases as some are travel related and one was in an asymptomatic health care worker at a long term care home as part of routine testing.

That worker was later retested and found not to have the virus.

Klassen adds that a nearby health unit also assigned some cases to HPPH based on geographical information.

She didn’t specify exactly where in the region the cases were reported.

The death toll from the virus in the region remains at 5.

Another 118 tests have been completed bringing the overall total to 12,186.
