Stratford man faces series of charges

A 48-year-old Stratford man faces several charges after police say he tried to break into an apartment.

Just after 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, SPS says they received a report about a man trying to break into an apartment on Downie Street.

Police went to the scene and say they learned the man had kicked in the door to the apartment and then left the area after being confronted by neighbours in the building.

He was identfied as a Stratford resident and the person living in the apartment knew who he was with neighbours chasing him away before he entered the apartment.

The person living there wasn’t hurt and the man was later found by police on Erie Street near St Patrick Street.

He was arrested at that time without incident and taken to Stratford Police Headquarters where he was charged with Mischief Under $5000 and Breach of Probation.

Police say they later received a report of a theft from the LCBO store on Wellington Street that happened just prior to 5:30 p.m.

The investigation into that matter showed that the man was also responsible for the theft.

As a result, further charges for Theft Under $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Fail to Comply with Judicial Order, and Breach of Probation.

He was held in custody on all charges to await a bail hearing.
