COVID-19 restrictions in Huron Perth could soon be loosened

COVID-19 restrictions could soon be loosened in Huron Perth.

The region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr.Miriam Klassen said on Thursday that she took part in a call with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer earlier this week about our area moving zones from Orange-Restrict to Yellow-Protect.

Huron-Perth was placed at the Orange level under the province’s reopening framework on February 16th and it’s reviewed every two weeks.

She says they discussed several local factors, including the outbreak at the Stratford Jail, and adds many indicators would put us into the yellow zone.

Dr.Klassen says local COVID-19 numbers are going in the right direction but the province’s numbers are stalling a little bit and she is also watching the increase in variants with concern.

Even if we do move to yellow, Dr.Klassen says we all need to make sure we still follow public health measures very closely.
