School boards in Huron-Perth investigating “cybersecurity incident”

The two school boards in Huron-Perth have temporarily taken down their student information systems after a “cybersecurity incident.”

Both the Avon Maitland District School Board and the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board have posted letters online about the situation and say they took the shared system, used for things like student attendance and report cards, offline on Friday.

The two letters both say officials don’t believe any personal information “was compromised.”

An external cybersecurity specialist is investigating and both boards say they will contacted those affected if they learn any personal information was accessed.

The boards say they expect the system to be back online “towards the beginning of next week.”

They say they don’t expect there will be any significant impact for students or parents in the meantime.
