Southwestern Public Health says a COVID-19 variant of concern has been discovered in their region.
SPH says routine laboratory testing has identified a COVID-19 variant in two residents with both cases living within a single residence and both following strict self-isolation requirements.
In an email to MyStratfordNow.com, an SPH official says the variant is B.1.1.7., which was originally discovered in the UK.
They add they aren’t breaking down the information by geography, just reporting at the health unit regional level.
It’s the first variant of concern discovered in the Southwestern Public Health region.
