There’s been one confirmed case of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus in our region.
However, Huron Perth Public Health tells MyStratfordNow.com that there is limited genomic sequencing being done in Ontario on it so they don’t know what percentage of our confirmed cases are the Delta variant.
Experts say the strain, first discovered in India, is up to twice as transmissible as other variants with one dose of a vaccine providing 33 per cent protection and two doses 88 per cent.
HPPH says the percentage of confirmed cases that screen positive for a variant, that there is already a screening test for, has been declining indicating that that the Delta variant may be pushing out the others out.
