Two OPP officers cleared in Stratford arrest

Two Ontario Provincial Police officers won’t face charges stemming from a Stratford arrest.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says the two officers were called out around six o’clock in the morning on November 19th last year about a 41-year-old man who was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

When the officers approached the man, he drove off and into a corn field where he stayed for some time as more officers arrived, he eventually drove out and struck several police cruisers.

He ended up driving over a spike belt that had been deployed and was eventually arrested and transported to the hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.

The Director of the SIU, Joseph Martino, has determined that the officers didn’t do anything wrong and has now closed the case.

The SIU is a civilian agency in Ontario responsible for investigating circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
