Saputo inks deal to buy British cheesemaker

One of the world’s largest cheesemakers just got bigger.

Saputo, which operates a factory in Tavistock, has inked a deal to buy British-based Wensleydale Dairy Products.  The British company makes specialty cheeses and has about 210 employees.

The deal is subject to regulatory requirements but is expected to close at the end of this month.

Montreal-based Saputo operates facilities in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Argentina.
