Stratford family has a house to call home thanks to Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario

A Stratford mother of two says her emotions are running from surreal to overwhelming with her family moving into a new home thanks to Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario.

Claire Miller-Grosse, an early childhood educator and a single mother of two teenagers, was approved to own the home in Stratford through the organization’s homeownership program after being selected based on three main criteria, the need for housing, an ability to pay an affordable mortgage and a willingness to partner with Habitat.

Miller-Grosse says she first contacted the organization for support back in 2018 and her family will move into the home on Friday.

She says she’s very grateful to have the opportunity.

“Thanks to Habitat for Humanity I’m able to have a house that is my own and put equity into a building and years down the road have something to show for my work.”

Organization officials say the 12-year-old home the family is moving into was originally owned by another family they supported and they were able to buy it back and make sure another family has a place to call home.
