Dr.Klassen says any easing of COVID-19 restrictions needs to be done slowly

Huron Perth’s Medical Officer of Health says she’d like to see the pressure on the province’s hospitals relieved before a full reopening.

Dr.Miriam Klassen says hospitals in the province are still under significant strain from cases due to the Omicron variant including eight patients currently at the Stratford General Hospital.

Her comments come as Ontario Premier Doug Ford says a positive announcement on easing restrictions is coming by the end of the week.

Klassen says we need to take it slow and monitor indicators of the virus and she adds with Omicron we see the results quicker than with other variants.

She adds the province hasn’t reached out for her feedback regarding the announcement to come.
