Reduced hours extended at St. Marys Memorial Hospital emergency department

COVID-19 continues to impact hospitals in Huron Perth.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance President and CEO Andrew Williams says 99 staff is either off ill with the virus, awaiting test results, or off because of high-risk exposures.

As a result, it is putting pressure on the local healthcare system and some patients are now being transferred out of the area for care.

Williams says a major outbreak in the St. Marys Memorial Hospital’s inpatient unit means emergency department hours will continue to be reduced from 7 am to 6 pm until at least May 2nd.

Williams encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and boosted as he says the severity of disease they are seeing in local hospitals has a direct correlation with vaccination status.
