Breaking: City of Stratford ending state of emergency first put in place in 2020

A state of emergency is being lifted in Stratford after it was first out in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

First declared on March 26th, 2020, officials say the decision to end the emergency declaration as of 11:59 p.m. Monday was made with public health indicators continuing to improve or stabilize.

The declaration was put in place, officials say, to reinforce the serious nature of the pandemic and give the city some additional flexibility in responding to it.

Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson says the pandemic isn’t over and we can’t let our guard down or become complacent.

However, he adds it’s time to move forward, and make the transition as a community to the next stage of its pandemic response.
