Taxi rates to go up in Stratford as of Canada Day

Taking a taxi in Stratford will soon be more expensive.

The Police Services Board voted at their meeting Wednesday night to approve raising the rates on a phased-in basis beginning July 1st.

The request to raise the fares was made by taxi operators in the city who said it was needed to help cover the rising costs of fuel, insurance, and other expenses.

The changes will see rates go from:

  • Trips within the city with one or two passengers: $13 (currently $11.50)
  • Trips within the city with three or more passengers $14 (currently $12.50)
  • Trips for seniors: $12 (currently $11)

The board also voted to review the fares on an annual basis going forward.
