Ontario is facing a generational labour shortage.

That’s according to Premier Doug Ford who was in Stratford on Wednesday to announce a $5-million investment into the auto sector to prepare 500 new workers for careers in the industry.

Ford says the workers will come from underrepresented groups and the program will help them land jobs in areas including assembly, logistics, and quality control.

At the end of their training, Ford says every participant will receive a job offer from an employer in their region.

“The cars of the future will be built right here in Ontario by Ontario workers, it is an industry that offers good paying jobs and a meaningful career.”

Ford adds the province is working with the Automotive Parts Manufacturing Association to deliver job placements across their network for over 300 employers in Ontario.
