Stratford City Council approves more funding for boathouse project

Stratford City Council is putting nearly $200,000 more into renovating public washrooms at the city’s boathouse.

At their regular meeting Monday night, council voted to approve a request from Destination Stratford Executive Director Zac Gribble for the funding to go towards the modernization and expansion of the public washrooms.

The request was made after Gribble said a federal grant of nearly $300,000 wouldn’t cover the total cost of the project pegged at $476,000.

Part of the work will see the former tourism kiosk on York Street demolished and the project is to be completed by December.

Funding for the project will come out of reserves as it wasn’t included in this year’s budget.
