Students set to return to the classroom on a full-time basis

Local schools are ready to welcome students back to class on a full-time basis.

The Avon Maitland District School Board has launched its I Am Here Campaign with a focus on regular school attendance and how it’s always been fundamental to student success.

Officials say that fact was underscored by the COVID-19 pandemic which led to some students disengaging because of the transition between in-person and online learning as well as mandatory self-isolation periods.

While the Ministry of Education still requires schools to offer a learning from home option, AMDSB Superintendent of Education Jane Morris says she’s hoping most students choose to come to school.

“I do think that parents and staff, we all agree that the best place for students to be to actually learn is in our schools in front of our trained staff members.”

Morris adds the AMDSB has four attendance counselors to help families who have trouble getting their kids to school on a regular basis with school starting next Tuesday.
