With the school year wrapping up and Canada Day activities about to rev up, it’s a good time for police to remind residents about summer safety.
Stratford police’s Community Resource and Media Relations Officer, Darren Fischer, said it’s a great thing to see kids out having a good time and enjoying the weather, but we all need to remember to practice safe driving habits with more youngsters out and about.
“Especially the kids walking and riding their bikes, even being dropped off, getting in and out of the car. They are going to be a little bit more excited and less likely to follow those typical safety aspects. Slow down, pay a little more attention.”
Fischer said Canada Day events will be bring out residents, and the warmer months in particular see more activity.
“Throughout the summer people are going to be attending those patios and backyard barbecues. Probably having a few more drinks. Just make sure you are driving sober and using a designated driver or calling for a cab.”
With kids on their bikes more, Fischer adds it’s a good time to register bicycles for Project 529, a registration database, which has helped get stolen bikes back to their owners.
