Live Viewing Party: The Taming of the Shrew (1988)

March 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us for a Live Viewing Party featuring our film of Richard Monette’s classic 1988 production of The Taming of the Shrew! Begins this Thursday, February 4 at 7 p.m. EST on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/TUGi1vPKfu0
When the late Richard Monette set out to direct what would become his legendary staging of Shakespeare’s notoriously controversial comedy, he found his own solution to the play’s challenges: he simply presented it, as he recalled in his memoir This Rough Magic, “as a portrait of my own family.” Set in a Fellini-esque version of 1950s Italy, this rollicking production from 1988, starring Colm Feore and Goldie Semple, is still treasured by fans as one of the Festival’s all-time greatest hits.
As a prelude to the film, we’ll be airing an exclusive interview with Beck Lloyd featuring Colm Feore, who played Petruchio, and Kate Hennig, who played the Widow and understudied the late Goldie Semple as Katherina.
YouTube Première: Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m. EST: https://youtu.be/TUGi1vPKfu0 [streaming free for 36 hours].
