Demolition begins at Avon Crest

The demolition of Stratford’s first public hospital is now underway.
Workers started tearing down Avon Crest on Thursday following interior work to the building, including disconnecting telephone lines.
After receiving environmental concerns about the teardown from the public, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance officials say an environmental study revealed that the greenhouse gases emitted by demolition will be half of what the building emitted annually.
As for the future, last April, HPHA announced it was talking with Revera about plans to build a 128-long-term care bed building at the Avon Crest site.
