The United Way Perth-Huron is working to tackle the housing crisis in our area.
United Housing, a new organization that will work as a non-profit developer and operator of mixed housing, has been launched after a few years of being in the works.
Officials say it will take a lead role in helping current landlords by fundraising, renovating, and operating units so buildings don’t sit unused while also creating workforce housing so people can afford to live in the community they work in.
UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb says housing is the top issue that impacts everyone.
“Whether you have a mental health concern or are fleeing domestic violence, whatever it is, housing is the thing that makes all the difference in the world to begin to address the issues that you’re facing.”
United Housing will also partner with developers to meet government requirements around affordable housing units.
