Police warning you about porch pirate thefts ahead of the holidays

‘Tis the season for porch pirate attacks.

Defined as a thief who takes packages left outside doors by couriers, Stratford Police are reminding you to have a plan in place so that gifts you might buy aren’t stolen from outside your home leading up to the holidays.

You can do things like trying to limit the amount of time a package is sitting outside, let your neighbors know you’re expecting a delivery in case you’re away and, if you have one, register your security camera in the SPS security camera registry and mapping program.

SPS Constable Darren Fischer says to call the police if you notice something out of the ordinary in your neighborhood.

“If you see suspicious activity call us, I would much rather have us be able to go and prevent something from happening than come after the fact.”

Fischer adds the SCRAM program also makes an investigation into a theft quicker with police knowing where security cameras are located in a neighborhood.
