You’re being reminded to take a few steps for safety if you’re planning on being away from home for the holidays.
Stratford Police Constable Darren Fischer says one of those tips is not to post on social media telling people you’ll be away, making it easier for criminals that might be targeting areas online.
He says you should also have your lights on timers, making it appear as if the home is occupied.
“All of these tips are making it appear as if someone is at home, so the more you can make it look like somebody is there you become far less of a target.”
Fischer adds you should also team up with your neighbors to clear out each other’s walkways and driveways if it snows and someone is away.
