You’re being reminded to be cautious around local waterways over the weekend with melting snow and rain causing water levels to rise.
Officials with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority say they don’t currently expect serious flooding but water will spill over the banks in low-lying areas known to traditionally flood in the spring.
They say any remaining ice cover will be weakened and unstable and flood control reservoirs, like the one at the Wildwood Conservation Area, are especially hazardous due to fluctuating water levels.
Over the past three days, 30 to 50 millimeters of rain fell on the Upper Thames River watershed, which already had an estimated 20 to 40 millimeters of water equivalent in the snowpack.
