Unemployment rate went up in the Stratford area in January

A growing population and labour force led to the unemployment rate going up in our area.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region increased by 0.4 percentage points in January to finish the month at 4.8%.
Officials say there were losses in full-time positions that were made up for slightly by part-time employment gains.
Manufacturing experienced the biggest gain while forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, and oil experienced the biggest percentage loss.
