SIU Director clears police officer in Seaforth investigation

A police officer has been cleared by the province’s police watchdog after an investigation in Seaforth.

The Special Investigations Unit says a 35-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman sustained bullet wounds in the course of a police shooting outside a residence in Seaforth on October 18th, 2023.

The SIU was notified and began an investigation.

SIU Director Joseph Martino assessed the evidence and determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer who fired his weapon committed a criminal offence in connection with the injuries to both individuals.

The SIU is a civilian agency in Ontario responsible for investigating circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
