Update: Area school boards cancel classes for April solar eclipse

A rare total solar eclipse coming up in April is forcing changes for local schools.
Officials with the Avon Maitland District School Board have announced they are rescheduling the April PA Day from the 19th to the 8th out of an abundance of caution.
The Huron Perth Catholic District School Board is also moving the PA day from the 19th to the 8th.
While Huron and Perth aren’t in the path of totality for the eclipse, school officials say the area will experience a partial eclipse starting around 2 p.m. and ending around 4:30 p.m.
Individual damage to vision and cutting down on mass gatherings are cited as two reasons behind the move.
