Close to 200 drivers charged for not wearing a seatbelt over the Easter long weekend

Police charged nearly 200 drivers in our area for not wearing a seatbelt over the Easter long weekend.

West Region OPP says they ran a seatbelt campaign over the long weekend and stopped over 3,200 vehicles, the most of any region in Ontario.

Along with the seatbelt infractions, police also laid 1,559 speeding charges and 29 impaired driving charges.

Police remind you that a driver can be charged and face a fine between $240-$1,000 and two demerit points if they or any of their passengers under the age of 16 are not wearing a seatbelt or secured in a proper child car seat.
