St. Al’s hits home run with help of Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have hit a home run that can be felt here in Stratford.

St. Aloysius Catholic Elementary School has won a $53,000 grant from the Jays Care Foundation that will be used to make renovations to the baseball diamond at the school.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma says he has fond memories of playing on the diamond but adds it needs work.

“I remember our kids playing on that backstop and diamond and it hasn’t changed much, it’s deteriorated.”

Stratford is one of 60 communities across the country to receive part of $1.5 million in grants from the foundation that goes to baseball organizations for field improvements.
