Stratford swan took a break…in the middle of a busy intersection

A Stratford swan wandered off the beaten path on Thursday, setting up shop in the middle of a busy intersection for a short time during the morning commute.

The swan squatted on the road at the intersection of Ontario Street and Romeo Street at about 8:15 a.m.

Drivers had to navigate around the swan and there were several close calls at the intersection as cars were swerving around the swan.

Pedestrians intervened to help the swan across the road to a nearby car wash station, where it found a patch of grass, sat down and relaxed.

Quin Malott, Parks, Forestry and Cemetery Manager, said the swan was likely chased by other birds. It made its way to the Romeo Street intersection, one of the city’s busiest, and a far jaunt from its parkland home and the Avon River.

Malott said he found the swan one block south of the intersection on Albert Street.

The swan was not injured.

“It’s back on the river,” Malott said.
