Coming up at Stratford City Council on Monday…

The William Allman Memorial Arena is getting a new roofing system.

That includes both flat roofs and barrel roof for the city’s historic arena, which was originally built in 1924 and is one of the world’s oldest operating arenas.

A report prepared by Mark Hackett, Manager of Community Facilities, provides Stratford City Council with information on tenders for the flat and barrel portions.

Per the report, the lowest submission received for the flat roof is from Grand Valley
Roofing & Coatings Inc. at $351,364 while the lowest submission for the barrel roofing system is from John Kenyon Limited for $1,107,408.

Total cost comes in at $1,458,772 plus HST.

City staff have recommended accepting the low tenders. An additional contingency fund of $91,228 is also recommended by staff.

City council will consider the recommendation at their meeting on Monday, May 13.

The arena is well known for its ‘hip’-style roof. The Stratford Warriors junior B hockey team uses the Allman for its home games. Minor hockey, skating, and ringette also use the facility, which also features a community hall upstairs.
