Stratford man arrested after alleged hate-motivated crime

Waterloo Regional Police arrested a Stratford man after a hate-motivated incident in Waterloo on Saturday.

At around 12:50 p.m., police responded to an assault report at King Street North and University Avenue East.

A male assaulted a transportation service driver during a verbal altercation, damaging the vehicle.

No serious injuries were reported.

The 57-year-old man has been charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court in June.

WRPS officers, partnering with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit, believe the incident to be hate-motivated.
