Art in the Park gets going this weekend

With the warmer weather – fingers crossed – sticking around, local artists are getting set to offer their work starting this long weekend at Art in the Park in Stratford.

Held each year beginning in May, guests to the park area, between Front Street and North Street, near the Avon River, can browse between painting, woodwork, sculpture and ceramics to glass art, fibre art, photography and jewellery, all created by talented artists.

Juror Coordinator Bev Hewitt told My Stratford Now it was a busy off season, with 30 new artists being accepted by a team of three independent jurors, who ensure quality amongst artists. That brings the total number of artists to well over 70 for this season.

The organization has added a digital imaging category, which has been trending, Hewitt suggested.

“There is some very impressive work,” Hewitt said of the newest category.

There are also some talented weavers in the fibre category, he noted.

“New artists, new stuff, new styles…every season there is always something new to show at Art in the Park.”

The 54th season starts Saturday and continues on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., weather permitting, until Sept. 29.
