Perth County OPP have launched a traffic safety campaign for Canada Road Safety Week and the May long weekend.
The national initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, running until May 20, aims to enhance traffic law compliance and reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
“Officers from the Perth County OPP Detachment will maintain patrols on local roads to discourage factors that commonly lead to traffic fatalities, such as alcohol/drug-impaired driving, inattentive/distracted driving, speeding, other aggressive driving behaviours, and failure to use seat belts,” a media release said.
Working together, the community can significantly reduce preventable road deaths and ensure safer travel for everyone, the media release said.
During the campaign and throughout the year, drivers should pledge to practice safe, defensive driving and always obey traffic laws, OPP said, which can significantly reduce preventable road deaths.
