Peter Pan and Wendy now on stage at Avon Theatre

A favourite children’s character is flying again, this time at the Stratford Festival.

Avon Theatre is the venue for Wendy and Peter Pan, with the North American première of Ella Hickson’s adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s children’s story.

Performances started on Tuesday afternoon.

Directed by Thomas Morgan Jones, Hickson’s adaptation reimagines the journey to Neverland and features the entire Darling family, along with Peter Pan, the Lost Boys and Captain Hook.

Stratford Festival describes in a media release that the production as an ideal introduction to live theatre for young theatre fans.

Jones said audiences will be wowed by the adaptation, describing it as both, “familiar and completely new.”

The always glitzy opening night for Wendy and Peter Pan is June 15.

Performances run until October 27.

The production is dedicated to Neil Cheney, who worked for 41 seasons at the Stratford Festival, retiring as head of scenic carpentry in 2015.
