Catch up with old friends at Avon Co-op Nursery School

Avon Co-op Nursery School is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The community are invited to celebrate with an open house at the Avondale Avenue school on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Founded in 1953 by Tom Thompson of Stratford Festival fame, the school is a cornerstone of early childhood education.

Alumni and parent volunteer Ellen Hurley, part of the organizing committee, said highlights include arts and crafts by Ivy Rose Creative, a dance class by Stratford Dance Co., face painting, a bounce castle, and more.

The celebration is open to everyone, featuring displays of seven decades of school archives. Guests can meet current staff, families, and volunteers.

“And also at the event, we’re going to have all of our school archives opened up. So for anyone that may be attending, like every single year, the school does a community and a classroom scrapbook,” Hurley said.

Scrapbooks saved for 70 years will be on display.

“So lots of photos, lots of fun…little memories you can go down memory lane.”

The event is free and offers a full day of fun for families. For more details, visit the Avon Cooperative Nursery School’s website.
