Walk for Dog Guides goes Sunday in Mitchell

A fundraising Walk for dog guides is being held Sunday in Mitchell.

The national event is held in local communities across Canada and raises money to help the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

The organization helps Canadians with disabilities navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing dog guides at no cost.

In addition to training dog guides for people who are blind or visually impaired, dog guides are also trained to meet the needs of Canadians with hearing, medical and physical disabilities, epilepsy, autism, diabetes and for professional agencies assisting people in traumatic situations.

Each walk is organized by local volunteers and nationally has raised more than $22 million. There is no registration fee but participants are encouraged to fundraise.

Sunday’s local walk starts at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Lions Club and features a barbecue.

The local contact is Taryn Zinger, who can be reached at: [email protected].
