Opening nights all week for Stratford Festival’s 72nd season

The first six of a dozen productions on the play bill are having their ‘opening nights’ this week at the Stratford Festival.

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night gets it all started with Monday night’s performance at the Festival Theatre.

While productions are already underway, opening night performances provide a glitzy atmosphere, with guests joining actors from the Festival’s company on the red carpet.

Ann Swerdfager, publicity director with Stratford Festival, said the red carpet gets going at 6 p.m. on Monday night, with Stratford Police Pipes and Drums parading to the festival at 6:30 p.m. Festival company member Chris Mejaki will also perform with traditional drummers led by Scott Stevens.

Swerdfager said audiences will enjoy Twelfth Night.

“We have an amazing cast in this show.”

Later this week, Something Rotten! opens on Tuesday, also at the Festival Theatre.

Tom Patterson Theatre is the venue on Wednesday for Cymbeline, with Hedda Gabler’s opening night on Thursday also performing there.

On Friday, La Cage Aux Folles opens at Avon Theatre before Romeo and Juliet opens, at the Festival Theatre, on Saturday.

Six more shows open later in the season: Wendy and Peter Pan, The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia, Get That Hope, London Assurance, Salesman in China and The Diviners.
