Update: Motorcycle driver charged after collision

UPDATED:

An 18-year-old male motorcycle driver suffered serious injuries after a collision with a Buick at the intersection of Downie Street and St. Patrick Street around 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

The motorcycle driver was taken to hospital. An Ornge air ambulance was requested but the male ended up staying at Stratford General Hospital.

The 81-year-old female driver of the motor vehicle was not injured.

The male is charged with careless driving. He had no insurance and no plates on the Yamaha motorcycle, police say.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Downie Street at a high rate of speed, passed a vehicle north of St. Patrick Street and entered the northbound lane of Downie Street.

The Buick was crossing Downie Street, travelling east from St. Patrick Street to Douro Street. The motorcycle struck the rear driver’s side door and the motorcycle driver was ejected.
