Local tackle hunger campaign helps Stratford House of Blessing

City and area residents are the ultimate winners from a successful food drive.

The Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign collected 2,615 pounds of food over an eight day period ending June 1.

All of it went to the Stratford House of Blessing.

The Red Bag campaign saw volunteers drop off 1,200 red bags in Stratford. Residents filled up a back with non-perishable food items and left them on their doorsteps on June 1.

Purolator Couriers picked them up.

It was the second campaign held in the city, with more than 5,000 pounds of food collected in total.

Stratford House of Blessing relies on community support. Last year, House of Blessing hit record highs with more than 15,000 food visits and more than 193,000 pounds of food collected.

Demand continues to increase every month, the organization said.
