Ashes of loved ones, pets stolen during B&E

A cherished set of ashes was stolen during a break and enter at an Ontario Street residence.

Stratford police say the theft occurred between Waterloo Street and Front Street sometime between May 15 and May 22.

It has had a significant impact on the victim.

The ashes are the victim’s husband and brother-in-law. A second set of ashes includes two smaller containers with the ashes of two pets.

Both sets of ashes had documentation from the funeral homes that would identify them.

Also taken were silver dishes, silverware and jewellery.

The first set of ashes were inside a corrugated box that from the crematorium. This box was inside a burgundy cloth bag from Young Funeral Home, with gold rope ties.

The second set are from a funeral home in Michigan. The ashes were inside a plastic container in a white L.L. Bean canvass bag.

There are no suspects. Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 519-271-4141 extension 2 or through Crime Stoppers.

Due to the significant emotional impact, police are sending an appeal to the person(s) responsible to place the ashes outside of Young Funeral Home, at 430 Huron Street, or Stratford Police Service at 17 George Street West.
