Update: Police say Woodstock death investigation falls under domestic violence lens

Woodstock Police have released more information surrounding a double shooting resulting in the death of a male.

On July 4, just before 7:30 p.m., police received several 911 calls about gunshots in the area of Champlain Ave. Officers arrived and located a female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and began to render medical aid. She was taken by air ambulance to a trauma centre for treatment.

Additional officers arriving on the scene located a male on a neighbour’s front yard also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The firearm was located at the scene.

Police say the investigation is continuing and the victim is recovering in hospital. A postmortem is scheduled for today on the deceased.

Woodstock Police said they are holding the scene waiting for a warrant to search for additional evidence.  They added the male and female were in a relationship and the investigation is now being considered through an intimate partner violence lens. Police said there is no threat to public safety.

No charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing.  If anyone has information regarding this investigation or any video surveillance footage of the incident, contact the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
