A new long-term care facility in Stratford is getting closer to fruition.
At a special city council meeting Tuesday afternoon, council will address the sale of a vacant greenfield property on Vivian Line 37, in the north end.
A management report is asking council for authorization to sell the land.
In 2022, the province announced approval for a 160-bed long-term care facility in Stratford.
One hundred of those would be new beds, while the other 60 are replacing a former property on Mornington Street that closed several years ago after a flood.
A portion of land on the Grand Truck site in downtown Stratford was also considered for a period of time.
The 5.7-acre Vivian property was identified as the preferred choice for a variety of reasons, according to a management report, and it has been envisioned as a ‘campus of care’.
The developer is working on timelines with the Ministry of Long Term Care to get funding approval by November.
