A newly created position will help youth find housing and stay housed.
A partnership between Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society and Shelterlink Youth Services has led to the creation of a post-shelter housing and community connection worker.
Natasha Chadwick is the new connection worker and will help youth transition from shelter to housing, and support youth to remain housed, both organizations have announced.
Kristian Wilson, Executive Director, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society, said his organization is excited to support Shelterlink, and believes the position will assist youth in developing support networks and community connections.
Shelterlink provides emergency shelter to youth experiencing homelessness and outreach support to youth at risk of homelessness.
Guidance at a vulnerable time as they transition to adulthood, will increase their support networks, life skills and sense of belonging, leading to a higher probability of successful housing outcomes and improved quality of life, the organizations said.
Shelterlink Youth Services Executive Director Kate Trudeau said the initiative came about from a conversation about the gap and services needed for youth with the local children’s aid society.
