Stratford’s local food centre launhces campaign to raise three-quarters of a million dollars

The Local Community Food Centre (CFC) has announced a new fundraising campaign, “My Community Includes The Local,” intending to raise $750,000 by next summer.

According to the news release, the campaign has received an initial boost from local businesses Shackleton’s Real Estate & Auction Co. and KDB Law, each contributing $50,000, totaling $100,000.

This effort comes in response to a sharp increase in food insecurity in the region.

The funds raised will be used to sustain essential services such as community suppers and mobile food markets, replace outdated kitchen equipment, and build a reserve fund for future improvements and unexpected costs.

In 2023, The Local CFC served 13,800 meals and distributed over 700 bags of fruit to emergency shelters, the news release stated.

Katie DeBlock Boersma, Chair of The Local CFC Board at KDB Law, said, “Everyone has the right to healthy, nutritious food at accessible prices. I’m honoured to be able to help The Local meet the rising need in our community for affordable and quality food.”

The Centre’s programs are vital for providing healthy food and a sense of community, making this campaign crucial for its ongoing impact.
